When you’re hot, you’re hot. Justin Fox of Chino, California, fresh off his impressive NSCA US Open victories in the main and 5-Stand Junior concurrent, posted scores that matched the scorching Texas heat to win both the Texas Open and Junior Open titles at Rock Creek this July 17-19. The victories did not come easily, each becoming a battle between 18- and 19-year-old Junior All-Americans who have risen to the top of their game with years of dedication and hard work. At the end of the two-day, 200-target, main event, Fox found himself tied for the lead in both events with Louisiana’s Colton Raley. Both young men checked into the clubhouse with identical scores both days—92s on Saturday’s Fiocchi course and 95s on Sunday’s even more challenging Promatic course. Both courses featured an entertaining array of targets set by Promatic’s Buck Heath and the father-son team of Lonnie and Travis Mears.
The youth concurrent division of the Texas Open, the Junior Open, was created to provide NSCA Juniors and Sub-Juniors with a premier event that would draw the nation’s top young talent into shoulder-to-shoulder competition. With generous industry and private sponsor support, the Junior Open offers over $15,000 in scholarships and awards to these young men and women. The event attracted a field that included 26 NSCA All-Americans representing 10 states.
