Brody Sikes bested a field of strong competitors to become the new Cornhusker State sporting champion at Oak Creek Sporting Club near Brainard August 7-9. Sikes (profiled in the September issue) also took HOA in FITASC and turned in the top resident scores in the preliminary and super sporting events. Missouri’s Jeff Dickey was the top non-resident shooter in the main and posted the top score for the prelim. The Kriz family club owners, ever the gracious hosts, greeted shooters, handled registration and scoring, and prepared Saturday’s steak-and-potato dinner. Parents from the Oak Creek 4-H Club and members of the Brainard American Legion post took turns keeping shooters fed and watered for lunch all three days. Students from nearby Waverly High School and members of the Oak Creek Trap Club took to the fields as trappers and scorekeepers and did an outstanding job keeping the competition running smoothly.
